The Highest Quality Ingredients Available
Diamond begins with premium ingredients, including:
• Multiple Animal Protein Sources for the best amino acid ratio--includes chicken or lamb, fish and egg protein.
• Flaxseed -- a natural, highly palatable source of Omega-3 fatty acids.
• Chicken Fat -- one of the most digestible of pet food fat sources, and an ideal energy source, it also yields optimum levels of linoleic (Omega-6) fatty acids.
• Naturally Preserved -- with mixed tocopherols (a form of vitamin E)
• Beet Pulp -- a premium fiber source to help maintain optimum intestinal health.
• Chicken By-Product Meal -- low ash, highly digestible, primarily smooth muscle protein.
• Precision Formulated Vitamins and Minerals -- specifically formulated levels to guard against both deficiencies (resulting from inadequate amounts) and toxic reactions (resulting from excessive amounts) both of which may be harmful. • Glucosamine and Chondroitin -- two ingredients which work together to promote healthy joints. | |
Guaranteed Levels of Ash in All Adult Formulas.
Ash, which is made up of calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals, comes from bone and high ash protein meals. Adult pets do not digest all the ash they take in which means it passes through as waste. And, for adults, high ash level diets may increase certain health risks.
What Does a Low Ash Diet Mean?
• Greater palatability and higher digestibility -- less waste!
• The correct calcium to phosphorus ratio for optimum overall pet health.
• Reduced phosphorus levels to promote the health of your adult pet's kidneys--excess phosphorus is proven to be associated with kidney disease, the number two cause of non-accidental deaths in dogs.
Check the Ash Level Before You Buy.
Many pet food companies -- while trying to imitate our formula -- use high ash, or "high bone", protein meals (considered a low quality ingredient) because it costs them less to buy. And, because their ash levels are high, don't list a guaranteed ash level (which, we are sorry to say, is not required on pet food labels). But you, as a pet owner, have a right to know the ash level and what it means to your pet's health. Our Diamond brand adult formulas list ash levels -- and guarantee them, too! |
The rate of formation of Omega-6 eicosanoids is diminished competitively by Omega-3 fatty acids
Omega-3 (Linolenic Acid) converts to eicosanoids which are anti-inflammatory, anti-aggregatory, not immunosuppressive, and vasodilatory (promote widening of blood vessels). Research indicates many benefits to Omega-3 supplementation: • Control inflammation associated with inflammatory skin conditions • Relieve signs of atopic dermatitis (inflammation of the skin due to inhalant allergies) • May play a role in inhibiting the progression of kidney disease • Benefit to pets suffering from cardiac disease • May be useful in decreasing intestinal inflammation and in preventing intestinal cancer • Enhancement of the immune system. Research has also shown an inhibitory effect on tumor growth, enhancement of life in cancer patients, and is associated with longer remissions.
So while both may be essential, the correct ratio is very important to maintain health. According to scientific research, the ideal Omega-6:Omega-3 ratio in the diet should be between 5:1 and 10:1. High levels of Omega-3 fatty acids can be found ingredients such as fish oil and very few plants. Diamond uses flaxseed as it's source of Omega-3 fatty acids because fish is nearly impossible to stabilize naturally and flaxseed is much more palatable. |

Formulas Balanced with Omega-3 Fatty Acids
All Diamond formulas are fatty acid balanced.
Diamond Omega Fatty Acid Balanced
While many pet food companies tout the benefits of Linoleic acid (Omega-6 fatty acid) and guarantee the level, they are only telling the customer part of the story. This is because all pet foods contain high levels of Linoleic acid, while very few contain the correct amount of Linolenic (Omega-3)acid. It is true that Linoleic (Omega-6) acid does help the skin retain moisture. It is also true that when not balanced with the proper levels of Omega-3 (Linolenic Acid) fatty acids, the Omega-6 can lead to adverse health conditions.
Both Linoleic acid and Linolenic acid are polyunsaturated fatty acids and considered essential in humans, which means these two fatty acids must be supplied in the diet. These Fatty Acids are stored in cell membranes and are necessary for proper cell membrane function.
They can both be converted into hormone-like materials called eicosanoids, however, Omega-6 (Linoleic Acid) converts to eicosanoids that are pro-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, pro-aggregatory (promotes blood clotting), and thrombotic (promotes formation of blood clots within blood vessels). This can lead to: • Inhibition of wound healing • Promotion of hot spots and other inflammatory skin conditions • Inflammatory bowel disease • Arthritis • Strokes (human research) • Increased severity of renal and cardiac disease |
